Bush’s environmental politics

Hans Jonas  vs.  Bush

In a BBC article U.S. president Bush, being confronted with Al Gore’s engagement for transparent information on issues like global warming, justifies his jaunty environmental politics with a naive belief in the benefits of future technical attainments:

“New technologies will change how we live and how we drive our cars, which all will have the beneficial effect of improving the environment”

Doesn’t that remind us of Hans Jonas‘ “Imperative of Responsibility”, where he argues that this kind of argumentation is a paradigm for irresponsible politics. Well, but how was that with atomic power plants, Mr. Jonas?

Ethics concerning environmental and animal issues always give me a headache and a deep worry.
