Today the godfather of funk died. He is for me one of the most inspiring and vigorous artists. Thank you for every single muscle your music ever shaked in my body and for teaching me, how liberating and kick-in-the-ass music can be.

World Inferno Friendship Society – Regensburg 2006

Yesterday it was time again for the party of the year: World Inferno Friendship Society visited Regensburg and brought with them a birthday child – drummer Ben Kotch – HAPPY BIRTHDAY again!

They were only sextet yesterday, which is a pity (the big big BUT comes later on) as the brass section is simply so amazing for me. BUT they did the very best concert they ever did with me being in the audience. That means, it was the best concert I’ve ever participated (yes in good concerts one participates ) – the only band who could have possible done a equally good concert would have been the Make Up, but also only in the mood of their lifes. We all had so much fun and were dancing dancing dancing dancing and shouting and singing … wow, and WIFS were playing one extra song after the other.

Thanks to the society and thanks to Dunja and Sabrina for being such charming company and dancing partners!

Monochrome live in Munich 2006

We (my sister and me) went for a Monochrome gig in munich and I made some photos. They were great, vivid and very powerful. I always liked this band a lot as well as their alter egos/predecessors Dawnbreed. The audience in munich was a bit disappointing: very static and un-emotional. Strange, already with Xiu Xiu I had the same experiences in Munich…

Art is a way of making somebody see, seeing the old world in a entirely new, extraordinary and coherent way. It can be an insight, a reduction, a complexion. Gogogo Airheart were a whirlwind of all at once. They were also a perfect example of what it means to be influenced without being recycled or a rip-off. That to be influenced means to be inspired, maybe enlightened, at least to burn.

Jamie Steward and Caraleen McElroy’s latest dance encoys you into “la foret”. But only those who listen carefully, those who rub their eyes and look again, those prepared to eavesdrop. It’s personal and intimate. All intimate things need familiarity and trust. Can we trust these two forrest spirits? But too late, once caught in their allurement you follow the chuggling brook of electro cittern, bells and twinkling sounds. Ensouled breathing synth bits mixing with whispers, not piecewise but monolithic and yet fragile. It’s soft, sweet, but be careful, intensity lurks behind many trees like a sudden wind in your neck. No sense in asking it “Where do you come from?”. It’s getting lost but never being lost. No, it’s not scary, it’s being astonished, having big eyes, forgetting the question “How did I come here”. It’s so senseless when you were always there. Memorial of the present.
